Standout
The weather had been way too hot so I was making my way south along the Stuart Highway as quickly as possible. I found a camp on a large sheep station at Spear Creek which is right on the foothills of the Flinders Rangers in South Australia. What stunning landscape ! A mixture of mountain ranges, grassy plains and thick bush with a river or a creek thrown in for good measure.
Talking to the owners of the sheep station, the area had been settled by early indigenous people and there were lots of signs around that were clear evidence of their occupation of the area such as quite a number of scarred trees running along the banks of the creek. Scar trees were used, as an example, to build canoes, shelters and shields. My love for this area was heightened immediately. I couldn’t wait for my first photo shoot in the morning.
The information online for the mornings’ forecast was “cool breezes”. Finally, an escape from the heat but cool breezes my *** ! What I woke to was a windy, cold and blustery morning. No complaints though so after making my coffee and grabbing my gear, off I went.
I didn’t get the colours of the sunrise I was looking for but the light that was on offer was amazing. The Flinders Rangers were a beautiful backdrop to virtually any image I wanted to capture. Yes, the wind was there along with the bitter cold but who cares ??? I loved it !
