Contemplation
The NSW town of Tumut in the middle of winter is cold…. very cold ! ! ! Regardless, it is surrounded by exceptionally stunning, natural beauty. I had just visited the incredibly beautiful and historic Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins where fossickers and miners did their thing back in the 1860s and 1870s.
I needed to get back to the van and although it was getting quite late, I decided to take what looked like a picturesque, gravel track instead of the bitumen road. I wasn’t disappointed. I came across a slow flowing creek which is something relatively new to me. This is especially the case when you consider the number of dry river/creek beds that I’ve come across in the much drier outback areas of our country.
I briefly stopped on what was a very old, rickety, wooden bridge which straddled the creek. I got out of the car and saw the last of the afternoon sunlight signaling out a red river gum. It stood alone and seemed to be precariously balanced on the creek’s bank.
The scene looked so peaceful, with the fading light briefly caressing the trunk of the lone tree and then being reflected in the cold waters of the creek. I just had to get the shot ! I ran back to the car, grabbed my camera and then set the shot up hoping that I wasn’t too late in capturing the image before the last of the light disappeared.
I packed the camera away, started the car and turned the heater on to maximum. As I sat there, I was feeling quite chuffed about my unexpected reward. I hope I did both the tree and the scene, justice.
