Twisted Deadfall
I arrived in the Royal National Park in the dark. It was a cold and early start to the morning so a hot coffee was a priority. At the first sign of light, I began my walk along the Couranga Track to my pre-determined location – a creek crossing. The anticipation was building and despite there being a number of photo opportunities along the way, I just had to get there.
I wasn’t disappointed ! It hadn’t been raining for a while so I wasn’t expecting a lot of run in the creek but what lay before me and around me was simply beautiful.
It’s quite difficult to express in words to be honest, but walking in a forest in the early morning hours is quite magical. All your senses begin to work overtime as the forest itself starts to wake. On arrival, my eyes start to dart all around me trying to take it all in. The air that you breath is cool, fresh and has its own beautiful scent. The sound of birds chirping as they too begin to wake. You can just start to make out the first rays of light weaving their way through the trees as if it were a race to reach the forest floor first. The sound of "ole mate“ kangaroo hopping away (at least I hope it was a kangaroo ) and the glistening light bouncing off what little water is running in the creek …… it simply doesn’t get much better than this !
How do you capture all of that in a single image ? I know I’m not good enough too. But really, it doesn’t matter. After all, I did manage to experience something very special that morning.
