Taste of Summer
The first day of summer hadn’t quite arrived. Yet, the forecast for the next day was for it to be very, very hot.
The next morning, I got up early and I found myself setting up the tripod on the sand at Gordons Bay. The bay was very calm. It was quiet and there was little to no wind and already, the temperature was a very warm 25 degrees.
I tried a few compositions and I eventually settled on one I was reasonably happy with. It was time to sit and wait for the morning light to appear. As the sun finally began to rise, the first of the early morning “Iphone walkers and joggers” started to appear along the coastal walk behind me.
Soon after, a young female photographer helped her very pregnant client down onto the nearby rocks with the view to capture some early morning sunrise shots of her client. As I sipped on my coffee, I watched them playfully skip down to the water’s edge. The warm colours of the rising sun was to become what seemed to be the perfect backdrop. I don’t know how many photos were taken of her in that short session but I do know they had a lot of fun. Their laughter was contagious.
Then there was the man with his runaway dog that just couldn’t wait to jump into the cool, refreshing water and splash around. The whole bay seemed to be coming to life. On reflection, it reminded me of how the forests come to life early in the mornings in a similar manner.
I took the shot and then found a spot to sit on the nearby rocks with my feet dangling over the edge. I poured myself another coffee and as I took the whole scene in, I couldn’t help but feel just how privileged a life I live, albeit simple.
